November 2002

How are you? Hope things are going your way. Funny, I've been unemployed for two weeks but it still feels like I've got hold of a speeding locomotive that ain't slowing down. I'm not sure who's at the throttle, but at least it seems to be staying on track.

We're really looking forward to this big shindig on the 15th of December, 2002 … should be fun, but even more so I'm looking forward to the 16th when I can rest and get ready for editing this documentary. When everyone gets back from the holidays, Kai and I will hit the ground running on the edit. We'll also conduct several key interviews during the first half of 2003.

To save money and trees, this'll be the last newsletter that we send via traditional mail. Future issues can be found on our website (www.AbraxasProductions.com), just click on the Newsletter link. We'll send out email whenever a new newsletter is ready so please make sure we have your email address … just go to the Newsletter page and fill out the mailing list form, or send email to Newsletter@AbraxasProductions.com and we'll make sure you get updates whenever they become available.

We're looking forward to seeing you on December 15th at "Blaze's Big Birthday Bash" to celebrate his legacy and the tribute projects.

Kind regards,
Kevin Triplett
Fearless Leader

BLAZE'S BIG BIRTHDAY BASH
Blaze Day

True to its name, this event is coming together in a big way. Lots of folks are coming from out of town and some of the best South Austin musicians will perform songs of, for and inspired by Blaze. The documentary project will be there in full force, interviewing folks.

We're planning to display new old photos of Blaze alongside the artwork of his close friend, Ezalb Yelof. In addition, our thirteen stations of Blaze will attempt to chronicle the major events and phases of his life.

We'll be premiering snippets from the documentary along with archival performances by Blaze. In addition, the Tribute Project is releasing it's FOURTH CD at the bash: a collection of songs written for or inspired by Blaze and one song he was co-writing with Robin Carty at the time of his tragic and heroic death - Robin will be performing "Walk Me Away" at the bash.

Bring a coat (child or adult) or toy (opened) to the Bash for donation and receive a free souvenir poster, a special 11x17 reprint of Blaze's rare Zephyr Records poster! You can't miss this opportunity to help the community AND get a piece of Texas history!!

Here's the set list of musicians performing at the Bash (as of December 4th, subject to change, check back here for latest set list):

Pat Belen Steve Hopkins Michele Murphy
Robin Carty Sheri Frushay Carlene Jones
George Ensle Mandy Mercier Finale:
John Casner Pat Mears "Our Town" sing-along

Special Guests:
Calvin Russell, Gurf Morlix, Cody Hubach, Waddell brothers, Jon Emery (M.C.)

NEWS and OLDS
the tidbits and whatnots

We've completed our second successful roadtrip to Georgia, where we gained wonderful new insight into the life of Dep'ty Dawg and his subsequent transformation into Blaze Foley. Everybody there was incredibly supportive and treated us to warm southern hospitality. Incredible new artifacts from Dep'ty's life in Georgia were discovered and stories of his escapades captured for us to share with all of you.

Did you know that Blaze tried to sell "If I Could Only Fly" to Eastern Airlines, lived in Chicago for a brief period of time, and changed the original lyrics of Big Cheeseburgers from "brown eyes" to "blue eyes?"
