Had a blast at the Memorial last Saturday night. I'm glad it's over but feel good that everyone had a good time and enjoyed good music. The clips from the documentary went over well and folks enjoyed seeing Blaze perform on screen. Some people saw friends they hadn't seen in twenty years. We all raised $528 for the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless and $528 for the musicians and $264 for the documentary project. I kicked off the event as MC and then turned the mic over to the very capable Larry Monroe who hosts several radio shows on KUT who keeps Blaze's and his friend's music alive and is creating an audio documentary on Townes. We had Gurf Morlix, The Texana Dames, JT Van Zandt, Mandy Mercier, Lost John Casner, and Will Indian performing Blaze's music for the assembled crowd of over 200. We recorded the concert on videotape and captured several ribald stories of the absent but present character Blaze. A great evening I'll never forget.
